Rothko-12 Artists 12 Days {Day 10}

I never understood Rothko until I stood in front of one, then captured, I found it hard to step away from the light that radiates out of his work.

  1. I live in Texas, just 4 hours south of the Rothko Chapel. It is a favorite place of mine. Pictures are strictly forbidden inside which in an era where cell phones and cameras are an every-moment part of life's experience, NOT recording what you are doing makes one hyper aware of the doing. Especially when what you are doing feels so deep. I go and sit in the chapel when we are in the area and get lost in the giant canvas of rich, dark hues. The people that walk and sit, stand and contemplate become part of the experience like sculptures or installations of being. It is definitely a place of peace.

    1. Thank you for sharing that Rachel, I feel like you took me with you, beautiful. Its interesting that he claims that his paintings are so much of this world and not spiritual when so many people feel that in front of them. I guess there is a huge lesson there for us.
