Photography is one of my first loves. I love the way it holds moments tenderly and how it can express what is precious, I love the way I am able to open a book of photos and suddenly I am holding my new born child again, I love the way I can be looking for something on my computer and am suddenly swept back to a magical day. I love the way it speaks that which has no words while leaving room for the mystery. I love the way it allows me to breathe in the moment, to drink it deeply, to savour it...

Camera Craft Photography e-course www.galiaalena.com/cameracraft

I've put together an e-course to honour that love of photography and share it with others. It's part technical, part inspiration, and fully soulful AND I have some amazing collaborators joining me sharing their love for the medium (pop over here to see who these wonderful women are). To celebrate I'm giving away a spot in Camera Craft.

  1. Galia - photography was my passion many moons ago - I had a darkroom in my home. But, it was a long time ago and I have forgotten so much. I would love to rekindle the flame.

    1. I always had darkrooms in my house, even as a child, a fragmented memory from another time. I miss some of that alchemy. Xx

  4. These images appear - as if by magic - speaking deeply to the nectar of one's soul, reaching tendrils all the way down to the heart's depths. I'd love to learn the secrets of sorcerering a few sacred images of my own!

  5. I have a camera but never use it because I am a lousy photographer. They are boring photos, so boring I don't even put them into albums, I usually just delete them. Needless to say I don't have many memories recorded so would love to learn and be confident with my camera.

  6. I first found my love of photography when I entered the world of branding and marketing. I would make collages of photos to show the creative directors what I wanted people to feel with the brand. I learned to collage with photos mainly when I had no words - in all areas of my life. Then two years ago I bought a Cannon e3 and fancy lenses and now I go out alone and take photos for hours - like a meditation. It is trance like for me. Languagedisapeers and some other form of communicating emerges. Some say this is what a hobby is - just joy. for me - it is essence of soul communication between me and the universe.

    1. Yes, images have a deep language beyond words. And I understand that "meditation". For me "to pay attention, this is how I prey", photography can be a moving meditation and honouring.

  8. I used to try to take beautiful photos but they were lifeless and flat. When I started to take photos that illustrated my inner knowing, they sang. My art springs forth from within me. It is not something I can capture from the outside and bring in.

  9. When my father passed away I went to clean out his apartment and to my delight found a huge box of photos from his boyhood up to his time grand parenting my children. It was such a sweet gift to see so many moments of his life, some I had shared with him, some I didn't even know had occurred. Those pictures were a huge part of healing through grief and I became aware of how I wanted to create photos of my own life and my children so we could all treasure the memories we make together. That was my intention, and yet when I started taking pictures I noticed I was seeing things in a different way than when I wasn't behind a camera. I noticed different details, shapes, colours and time seemed to slow down a little when I took care to be present with the subject of the picture. Somewhere along the way of mothering I set the camera down and life sped up and I have missed photography and the gifts it brought me. I'm really really looking forward to beginning again.

    1. Yes, the gift of seeing is one of photography's gifts to give. And I know that putting down the camera to parent and juggle life :) I also know the picking up of the camera as a portal back to both self and creativity.

  10. Such an inspiring offering! Life is up in the air at the moment and with no way of knowing which way it will go, the title of your workshop is a beautiful reminder of what I should be doing instead of fretting and worrying myself into knots! This in itself is a gift for which I am profoundly grateful. Thank you!

  11. Hi Galia, I've only really started to get excited about photography the last few years. I love to wander out in nature and in botanical gardens and to capture beautiful moments in time. More recently I've enjoyed experimenting with taking pictures of sunsets & sunrises, reflections in water, swans & cygnets on lakes and close ups of flowers. I particularly love to capture images of water lilies and lotus flowers - they speak to both my heart and soul. <3

  12. My first photography class in high school hooked me. I loved working in the dark room and watching images emerge! Nature and capturing moments in nature is my first love. I'm not as skilled in setting the functions on my camera to capture the best technical image, but I am good at using my gut, intuitively feeling what looks good...I'd like to be able to do both and up the ante on my skill set.

  20. I am absolutely thrilled to have found your blog through this giveaway. I'm a new reader, and think your site is quite lovely. I would love to participate in your offering. For some time now, I've been resetting my boundaries to let go of negativity and those who come with it. It's been horribly difficult, sad, and lonely, but during this time I've picked up my camera, and reconnected with an old best friend. Shooting photos has brought me solace, mindfulness, and safety. I would love to learn how to drill deeper into the craft. Peace and Love

  21. Ooh this could not of come at a better time in my life and the journey thru my Art. Photography has always been a part of my life. When I was seven, I asked for a camera for my b-day. I will never forget watching those pictures come to life from my Polaroid! I always loved being the one in the family to take all the photos for celebrations and gatherings. Capturing the essence of our experiences and lives.
As I grew older I took photography in high school, I loved it! I even entered some of my photos in our school exhibit and won! I never went on to pursue anything with my skills but I was also never without a camera! Still to this day, as an artist I take all of my own photos of my paintings . My children love taking photos and it so much fun seeing them rush with excitement to capture that shot!
    Thank you for this opportunity!
    Blessings,
    Jen

  25. Hello to you beautiful Galia, I subscribed to your email mailing list; I am excited to learn more about your offering. This class calls to me so much. I love the inside out approach that your class has. I feel as if haven’t been able been able to get into photography or to cultivate it as a habit and practice because I’ve been focusing outside in-such as on technique and then hoping the photographs would ignite a passion for photography for me. Watching the documentary Finding Vivian Maier motivated me to leave this comment. Have a enchanting day today. Thank you for organizing this class. Love, Jenny
